Turkey's authorities continue to shift the burden of their domestic and foreign policy onto the population, which is already dissatisfied with the country's economic situation. Today, the Turkish lira exchange rate hit a historic low, reaching 48.9984 against the dollar.

Pressure on the local currency comes from inflation, which is forecast at 28.4% this year, although authorities previously promised to reduce it to 16%. Against this backdrop, demand for foreign currency grows among the population and importers. The Middle East crisis has worsened the situation: Turkey faces rising energy and logistics costs.

However, this represents a logical deterioration of an already difficult economic situation that has been frozen for years. Now President Recep Erdoğan is preparing for early presidential elections, so structural solutions are being postponed. Authorities prefer to spend internal reserves for interventions in the currency market to slow the collapse of their own currency. From February to March 2026, Turkey lost over $40 billion this way.

📌Erdoğan's team continues to prefer half-measures in the economy, which leads to high inflation and weakening purchasing power. Ankara chooses slow currency depreciation over sharp unemployment growth. Although hidden unemployment in Turkey already reaches 30%.
