Chinese automakers are rapidly gaining market share in the UK. Thanks to the absence of high import duties and low prices, "Chinese" cars already account for 16% of total sales.

Due to high demand and favorable conditions, traditional dealers like Glyn Hopkins and Waylands are actively opening showrooms for BYD, Omoda, and Jaecoo, displacing familiar European brands. According to SMMT data, the BYD brand has already surpassed Tesla in market share in the country, and the Omoda and Jaecoo dealer network has grown from just two locations in July 2024 to 140.

In turn, executives of Western corporations and local players are expressing concerns about price wars and are urging the government to introduce protective tariffs to save the British automotive industry.
