Back then it was the unions pushing "free refugees" (the CFMEU was big on this) but the unions wete getting ridiculed for it and it was hurting membetship so the labor party had to start doing it themselves, then it became all about immigrants.
Look on you tube for free refugee rallies from 9 - 14 years ago and look at the banners, unions, CPA and socialist alliance banners wete everywhere.
