meta bans tiktok ads from its own apps

meta just blocked all ads from ByteDance (tiktok's china owner) across facebook and instagram in the US, canada, egypt, indonesia, japan, thailand and vietnam. the official line: "we don't have to run ads from a competitor whose goal is to pull people off our apps." it's tit-for-tat — tiktok had already banned links to IG and facebook profiles.

the tell: meta's dressing a rival-starving move up as "a normal business practice," right as it leans on its $18B child-safety settlement to pressure tiktok and youtube too.
