We just got an awesome new update from Telegram today, featuring:
- similar channel suggestions
- ability to repost stories
- user profile colors
- custom reactions in channels
- voice transcription, story circles, code formatting, and other cool perks
But that's not all. If you look carefully at the image featured on this update, you'll see The Open Network logo appearing for the first time, as well as Pavel Durov's portrait at the top of the board.
The TON logo shows up on a receipt, hinting at it as the main payment system of the messenger.
Also, if you look at the horn with the number 2, you will see a green piece of paper next to it. It has some information circled in the upper right corner along with a TON logo pinned on it. This points to the fact that the SEC restrictions imposed on Telegram/Gram are about to expire.
And there is more. Next to it, on the right-hand side, there is a fork fastened with scotchtape. This presumably refers us to Everscale. The pin on the fork is symbolically colored red, while the pin holding the receipt with the TON logo is green.
Fork
- A fork implies that part of the project will be split into a separate project, copying the source code and modifying it to create another blockchain.
It's worthwhile noting that since update 9.6.4, for 4 months (18 updates) Telegram has consistently kept the following description in its AppStore:
Minor improvements, fixes, and other changes.
Are they trying to "lay low" and avoid drawing attention from the AppStore overlords, thus protecting the ecosystem from excessive scrutiny? This mystery is yet to be solved.
Any other ideas on why TON has been referenced in the image? What other Easter eggs have you noticed (forget the banana)?
Let's investigate and get to the truth down in the comments. 👇
