Puga Valley sits at 14,000 feet in eastern Ladakh, where the Earth literally shows its cards. This remote geothermal field hosts India's only hot springs that bubble alongside sulfur deposits—basically nature's chemistry lab in action.

The valley's geothermal activity stems from the Indo-Asian tectonic collision that created the Himalayas. Steam vents dot the landscape while mineral deposits paint the ground yellow and white. Scientists estimate enough geothermal potential here to power significant portions of Ladakh. Wild yaks occasionally wander through this Mars-like terrain.

Visit July-September when roads clear and temperatures stay manageable. The valley lies 180km from Leh via Chumathang—a full day's drive through high-altitude desert. Acclimatization in Leh is essential before attempting this altitude.
