In 2020, Seth Fletcher of Ohio was beaten into quadriplegia while being tortured by prison guards, who routinely bullied him. Fletcher was diagnosed with Asperger's and suffered from other mental health problems.

He had been sentenced to two years in prison for a crime he committed at 18-years-old: filming a "consensually made videotape with his girlfriend, who was a couple of years younger" (as per his attorneys).

It was alleged that she was under 16, but given that he wasn't convicted of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, this was obviously never proven in court, and it would have been extremely easy to do so. They'd only need her date of birth and the video's metadata.

Fletcher was awarded a $17.5 million civil rights settlement but the guards who crippled him for life were never prosecuted.
