Participants wanted lighter punishments for female perpetrators than male perpetrators.
Participants were more likely to forgive female perpetrators.
Female participants perceived greater victim suffering than male participants.
Female participants perceived more intentional harm when women were fired than when men were fired, while the inverse was not true for men.
This was not a jury study, but it does provide tangential evidence for a potential psychological mechanism that may contribute to the trends identified in my previous post: Women are perceived as eternal victims who experience more suffering than men even when inflicting suffering upon others. Thus, female victimization elicits harsher punishment and female perpetration receives greater leniency.
