reaistically speaking: lovehate relationships would not only just make things harder, since one of 'em doesn't REALLY like their partner, it would actually hurt. realizing, that the partner would make fun of you not in a flirty or romantic, but mean and hateful way (as in their case), could really make them doubt their feelings at all. "were they ever true? and will they ever be?"
