For those who misuse Numbers 31:17-18 to promote racemixing, do not ignore that Numbers 31:18's context (Numbers 31:12-17) says and shows that Moses himself was very angry at the returning OT Hebrew army's men due to them saving alive the idolatrous, strange, heathen, foreign, Midianite women instead of slaying all the idolatrous Midianites
Exodus 31:12-16 1611 KJB
[12] And they brought the captiues, and the pray, and the spoile vnto Moses and Eleazar the Priest, and vnto the Congregation of the children of Israel, vnto the campe at the plaines of Moab, which are by Iordan neere Iericho.
13 And Moses and Eleazar the Priest, and all the Princes of the Congregation went foorth to meete them without the campe.
14 And Moses was wroth with the officers of the hoste, with the captaines ouer thousands, and captaines ouer hundreds, which came from the battel.
15 And Moses said vnto them, Haue ye saued all the women aliue?
16 Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsell of Balaam, to commit trespasse against the Lord in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the Congregation of the Lord.
Notice that Moses, in Numbers 31:17-18 then makes his own personal decision that allows the Hebrew men to keep some of the Midianite women alive, and this decision was based on Moses' personal understanding instead of fully obeying God and basing his decisions on God's command to vex all the Midianites back in Numbers 25:16-18 KJB:
[16] And the Lord spake vnto Moses, saying,
[17] Uexe the Midianites, and smite them:
[18] For they vexe you with their wiles, wherewith they haue beguiled you, in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a Prince of Midian their sister, which was slaine in the day of the plague, for Peors sake.
Moses speaking his personal decision in
Numbers 31:17-18 KJB rather following God's command or even asking God what to do:
17 Now therefore kill euery male among the little ones, and kill euery woman that hath knowen man, by lying with him.
[18] But all the women children that haue not knowen a man by lying with him, keepe aliue for your selues.
So Moses, not God, is supporting and endorsing a personal decision to not slay some Midanities, even though Moses' decsison of not smiting some Midanities here in Numbers 31:17-18 goes against God's command (for Moses & the OT Hebrews) to smite the Midanities all the way back in Numbers 25:16-18.
Thus, Numbers 31:17-18 does not show God himself ever supporting racemixing; Numbers 31:17-18 shows that man has the ability to make his own different choice instead of obeying/following God's commands in /for a person's physical, fleshly life.
Proverbs 3:5-6 1611 KJB
5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and leaue not vnto thine owne vnderstanding.
6 In all thy wayes acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy pathes.
