Brad Bird has been carrying Ray Gunn since before The Incredibles existed. Noir detective, retro-futurist city, aliens, Sam Rockwell on voice duty. The premise still earns the hype.

The honest caveat: passion projects age in two directions. After Ratatouille's perfection and the thinner returns since, Bird has ground to reclaim. A still image proves nothing.

🎬 Universal is sitting on the Elon Musk doc it paid millions for

Alex Gibney, who took on Scientology in 'Going Clear', finished a four-hour Musk portrait. Bleecker Street releases it in the US on October 16. Universal bought international rights in 2023 and is now going cold. Let's call it what it is.

Catch-and-kill logic without the clean NDA paperwork. The film exists, it has Oscar buzz, and Universal just doesn't want the phone calls that come with releasing it abroad.

Gibney has always aimed at targets who push back hard. A studio hesitating to distribute his work tells you more about the subject than any trailer could.

🎬 Sally Field wins the Emmy. At 79. Every bit earned.

Sally Field took home Outstanding Lead Actress for Netflix's Remarkably Bright Creatures, becoming the oldest winner in her category. It looks like cozy background streaming. It isn't. Director Olivia Newman built something genuinely warm and well-crafted, and Field carries it with a precision that makes you forget she's acting at all.

Two Oscars and a near-mythic ability to make good material feel true. Netflix handed her a solid script, and she handed Netflix a masterclass.

David Corenswet carries this thing on pure screen presence. Classic jaw, Golden Age magnetism, the kind of face Paramount used to build careers around. Good fit for a story that needs you to believe in a guy nobody believed in.

John Tuggle was the very last pick of the 1983 NFL Draft. Dead at 25 from cancer. That is not a feel-good arc; it is a gut punch with a jersey on. Michael Shannon in the supporting cast suggests Paramount isn't playing it safe.

The real question is whether the film earns the tragedy or soft-pedals it into sports-movie wallpaper. The trailer hints at both. Cautiously on board.

🍿 The Odyssey just became Universal's biggest film ever. And WB handed it to them.

Christopher Nolan's gamble on theaters paid off to the tune of $1.68 billion worldwide, dethroning Jurassic World as Universal's all-time record holder. Matt Damon as Odysseus, a 97% audience score, and the best reviews of Nolan's career.

WB let him walk over a streaming policy. During COVID, they couldn't commit to theatrical exclusivity, and Nolan walked. He then made Oppenheimer and now this. That's two of the biggest films of the decade, gone. For a policy they've since abandoned.

This is what happens when a studio misjudges its own asset. Nolan is one of the few directors whose name alone sells tickets. You don't fumble that.

🎬 Taron Egerton is the most wanted man in London. Not by the police.

Director Jonathan Schey inverts the predatory-dating dynamic entirely: the women stalk, Egerton's "nice guy" Adam is the target. Sharp satirical premise, backed by Film4, StudioCanal, and LuckyChap, and clearly self-aware about every inch of its title.

The title stays. Good. Egerton playing a murky, likeable-but-not charmer is smarter casting than it first appears, and this kind of dark British comedy with actual teeth is exactly what Film4 does best.

🎬 Mike McFarland is gone. The voice of an old man who never actually grew old.

Mike McFarland passed away at 56 from glioblastoma, leaving behind a run that shaped how an entire generation heard anime in English. He joined Funimation in the late '90s and never left, voicing Master Roshi across every corner of the Dragon Ball Z universe, plus Buggy the Clown in One Piece. 56 years old. He started playing a lecherous immortal hermit at around 30.

What gets me is how much he did with Roshi in Dragon Ball Super's Tournament of Power arc. A character who could've coasted on cheap comic relief ended up landing genuine weight. That was McFarland finding something real inside the joke. Voice acting that invisible is the hardest kind.

Lance Oppenheim built his rep on docs that feel fiction-adjacent (Ren Faire, Spermworld), so flipping that lens onto To Catch a Predator is a genuinely smart move. Robert Pattinson doesn't do an impression; he plays the hunger behind the performance, that barely-contained thrill of a man who knows the cameras love him.

The ghillie-suit moment in the clip is peak TCAP absurdity. Oppenheim keeps it deadpan. That instinct is exactly why this works.

Alex Gibney knows how to turn a complicated monster into a film. He did it with Scientology in 'Going Clear', and from what this teaser suggests, he's applying the same forensic patience here. Four hours sounds excessive until you remember the subject has his hands in rockets, social media, the U.S. government, and a dozen other fires simultaneously.

The poster looks like it crawled out of a 2003 thriller bin, and somehow that's exactly right. There's a genuine question of preaching to the choir, and Gibney knows it. That tension, between rigor and audience, is what makes his best work land.

Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz back for a direct sequel to The Mummy Returns, with Radio Silence (Ready or Not) directing. Horror directors on a legacy adventure franchise. I buy that.

Imhotep back. Beni back. Yes, both of them. After the third film buried this franchise alive, zero apologies is the right approach. 🏜️

🎬 Zach Cregger has thoughts on Hollywood's viral horror gold rush. Good ones.

Cregger is out here saying what few working directors will say out loud: chasing a hot IP without loving the story is a fast track to a bad movie. He knows because he lived it, with the 2009 comedy Miss March. Coming from the guy who turned Barbarian into one of the sharpest horror films of the decade, that carries weight.

He's also not writing the Weapons spin-off Gladys himself. Zach Shields has that one. Smart move: you don't have to direct everything in your orbit just because your name is on it. Restraint is underrated in this industry.

🍿 Pattinson plays Chris Hansen. Hansen is not pleased. This is already fascinating.

Director Lance Oppenheim, who apparently first encountered "To Catch a Predator" through South Park parodies, has turned that secondhand mythology into an A24 thriller. That detail matters, because Primetime feels less like a biopic and more like an obsession with why Hansen became an icon in the first place.

Pattinson nailed it when he said there's "something he's doing" behind that show's staying power, something you can't name even after watching thousands of hours. The camera loves certain people for reasons that defy logic. Hansen is one of them.

Hansen walking out of the A24 screening over an NDA is, weirdly, very on-brand.

Milly Alcock is genuinely good casting. A jaded, punk-edged Kara with real bite, nothing like the blue-eyed scout of old. What drags the film down is everything around her: the script, the palette, that oppressive murky brown and yellow grade that makes every frame look like it was shot inside a diesel engine.

Director Craig Gillespie reportedly skipped Tom King and Bilquis Evely's source comic entirely before taking the job. It shows. The book's visual poetry is striking; the film's is not. Deliberately ignoring your source material isn't a bold creative choice, it's just hubris with receipts.

"Lisan al Birdee." That poster is funnier than most blockbuster marketing this year. Director John Rice and Jason Sudeikis are leaning hard into self-awareness, and it works.

The first The Angry Birds Movie had no business being as funny as it was. Solid jokes, real craft underneath the IP slop. Three films in, the franchise is still betting on meme culture as its engine, and honestly, that bet looks smarter every time.

🧠 Idiocracy turns 20. It was right about everything except the timeline.

Mike Judge gave President Camacho 500 years to emerge. We're speedrunning it in real time. The film's sharpest joke isn't the Brawndo ads or the toilet humor, it's that Camacho actually listened to an expert when it counted.

That's the detail that stings most in 2026. Idiocracy didn't predict collapse or dictatorship. It predicted a world that stays just functional enough to keep humiliating itself, and somehow that's the scarier outcome.

Seven years since Detective Pikachu and the franchise skips live-action entirely. Director Katsuhiko Kitada and CloverWorks (of Spy x Family) are centering a TCG player and Mimikyu. That alone is a more interesting premise than any nostalgia-bait reboot.

The poster leans hard cyberpunk: dark palette, sharp angles. For a franchise that lived in pastel comfort for decades, this is a real tonal bet. Cautiously sold.

Director Dave Green and Will Forte spent years watching Warners try to bury this thing for a tax write-off. It finally hits theaters, and people are laughing all the way through. Minor miracle.

On paper it sounds like a joke. Wile E. takes ACME to court. In practice the heart underneath is real, and you might walk out genuinely moved by a cartoon coyote. The live-action/animation blend earns its nod to Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

The movie that nearly didn't exist turns out to be exactly what you needed.

Jessica Chastain doing double duty as mom and monster is inspired casting. Rob Savage (Host) knows how to make one image do all the work. Her crouched beneath the kitchen table already broke multiplex audiences cold.

Josh Malerman's novel has a blue, hairy demon; the film trades it for a doppelganger. A familiar face worn wrong beats any CGI beast. My only question: can it hold that dread past the first act. 🕳️

Sacha Baron Cohen returns as Ali G, now 20 years older and thrown into TikTok culture. The self-aware conceit is genuinely funny. And yes, he directed it himself.

The real question is which version shows up. The early Ali G, who exposed establishment cluelessness brilliantly in 'Ali G Indahouse', or the later one who just leaned into the joke until the joke stopped landing. Picturehouse passing is noise. October 23 is the only verdict that counts.

Chris Hansen bought ads before every screening of his own biopic. That move alone feels like an episode of his show.

Robert Pattinson plays Hansen at the peak of the 2006 To Catch a Predator frenzy. Director Lance Oppenheim has a gift for dissecting the theater of American obsession, and this subject fits him perfectly.

Hansen refused to watch the film without a no-lawsuit clause, then bought preshow airtime to frame the story on his own terms. A24 couldn't have scripted better marketing.
