Christa Pike now is now in the hospital, listed as "critically ill but not comatose" after Tennessee botched her execution on September 30th.
👮♀️ Christa was convicted of a murder in 1995, having tortured and killed her classmate.
💉She survived 2 doses of lethal injection. It usually takes only 1 to execute, inducing cardiac arrest. After the first injection she claimed her arm was about to explode.
🎭 They closed the curtain on the viewers, then opened them again for a second try at the show. This was one hour later from the first lethal dose. Witnesses reported hearing Pike snoring and breathing for over forty minutes after the second dose. She remained awake and trying to sit up.
🚑 Finally nearly an hour later they ended the procedure and sent her to the hospital for lifesaving care. Surviving two lethal doses is unprecedented.
Her attorney said,
🗣 "not just inefficient, it was cruel and torturous."
🕐 🛑 Before the event, there had been a last minute stay of execution. The US Supreme Court allowed Christa Pike’s execution to go ahead, overturning the last-minute stay.
