Why Telegram needs $ 1 billion in debt and how will they spend it

Due to claims from regulators, the TON project had to be closed. The launch date (April 2020) was disrupted. This, by agreement with investors, imposed an obligation on Telegram to return 72% of the investment.

The Telegram presentation states that out of the $ 1 billion attracted, $ 684 million can go to pay off debts in 2021 (what this amount consists of, it is not specified).

Telegram plans to spend the money remaining after settling on debts from the bond issue in the following proportions:

• 35% - equipment. Telegram will continue to invest in its own servers and network equipment so as not to depend on third-party cloud providers.
• 25% - user verification. The company sends sms to each user during registration to make sure that his number is up to date;
• 15% - employee benefits.
• 15% - rent of space in data processing centers + 5% - Internet traffic providers;
• 5% - technical support.

At the time of the release of the documents studied by VTimes, it had only one share issued - it belongs to Pavel Durov. However, the documents indicate that the company also has a maximum of 50,000 authorized shares (without designation of par and class of shares).
