🌊 Civil and hydraulic engineer Claudio Velazco stated that the consequences of the El Niño phenomenon “are nothing” compared to what was expected and that the river levels could rise higher than during the 1983 flood, when the Paraná River reached 60,000 cubic meters per second near Corrientes.
⚠️ “The outlook is that we’re going to have a flood as severe as—or even more severe than—the one in 1983,” he warned in an interview with a local media outlet. According to his analysis, some towns could see water levels rise between 80 centimeters and 1.20 meters above record highs.
🏛️ The expert blamed the national government for the lack of public works projects in the face of the advancing El Niño and denounced “a completely absent state,” in addition to the weakening of the National Meteorological Service and the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research—key institutions for anticipating these phenomena.
