🚨Teachers in Madrid Begin an Indefinite Strike in Defense of Public Education
📚 A broad coalition of unions and teachers’ groups in Madrid is launching an indefinite strike on October 14, with the support of family and student organizations. Among the organizers are CCOO (Comisiones Obreras), UGT (Unión General de Trabajadores), CGT (Confederación General del Trabajo), Solidaridad Obrera, and Menos Lectivas, among others.
✊ They are demanding shorter work hours, smaller class sizes, more staff to address diversity, less bureaucracy, better salaries, and an infrastructure plan. They propose limiting classes to 17 periods per week in secondary school and vocational training, and 22 in elementary school.
📊 They are also demanding a reduction in class sizes to 15 students per classroom in elementary school and 20 in secondary school, as part of an ongoing push to improve conditions in Madrid’s public education system.
