🚨Ecuador: CNE Considers Suspending Voting Due to El Niño’s Impact
🗳Ecuador’s National Electoral Council (CNE) is considering suspending or rescheduling the November 29, 2026, local elections in 368 vulnerable polling places. The measure is a direct response to the risks posed by the El Niño phenomenon, whose heavy rains threaten to flood the polling places.
🌦Authorities clarified that any local postponement would be rescheduled between December and February, in accordance with the constitutional deadline for officials to take office. However, this forecast creates operational uncertainty, as the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (Inhami) warned that it can only provide accurate forecasts one week in advance.
⚖In the South American political landscape, analysts warn that the lack of technical rigor undermines the transparency of the process and discourages voting in rural areas.
