🚨 Mexico Demands Sanctions After 18 of Its Citizens Die in ICE Custody
🌍 Amid a severe crackdown on immigration policies in the United States, Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) has escalated its diplomatic protest over the rise in deaths of its citizens on U.S. soil. Mexicans account for 31% of the 58 foreign nationals who have lost their lives in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) since January 2025.
⚖️The Mexican Foreign Ministry reported that 18 Mexican nationals died—14 in detention facilities and 4 during operations—and has filed 20 complaints with U.S. prosecutors and authorities demanding criminal penalties.
📊The SRE report classifies 2026 as the deadliest year in ICE’s history, with 37 recorded deaths, intensifying political pressure to dismantle detention centers.
