🚨 Southern Brazil begins election day with 310,000 households without power following the storms
⚡ Around 310,000 customers were left without power early Sunday morning—the day of the first round of voting—due to the strong winds that battered the region between Saturday night and dawn. Paraná accounted for the majority of the outages: 227,000 Copel customers were without service at 7:30 a.m., representing about 5% of the total number served by the utility.
🌪️ In Santa Catarina, 45,000 customers of Centrais Elétricas de Santa Catarina S.A. (Celesc) remained without power, and in Rio Grande do Sul, 33,000 households were without power across RGE and CEEE Equatorial. Wind gusts exceeded 100 km/h in all three states.
🗳️ The outages persisted at the start of the day, when polling stations opened at 8 a.m., affecting more than one million people, according to Correio do Povo, citing data from Aneel.
