🚨 Ecuadorian shrimp farmers warn that rising electricity costs are driving up production costs and threatening jobs
🇪🇨 The National Chamber of Aquaculture (CNA) warned on October 1 that the rate increase for high-voltage consumers comes on top of rising fuel and input costs, putting pressure on business continuity, employment, and investment.
⚡ The impact affects the entire supply chain: fish ponds, processing, refrigeration, and feed. Since the industry operates with live animals and a continuous cold chain, a prolonged power outage can result in irreversible losses.
📉 The CNA called for energy decisions to take into account the impact on production and for technical dialogue ahead of the rate review scheduled for December.
