🇯🇲Jamaica: Tightens Water Rationing Amid Severe El Niño-Driven Drought
🚰 The Jamaican government announced strict conservation measures in response to a severe water crisis. With 107 of its 405 reservoir systems at critical levels, the island will implement intermittent water cuts starting next week due to the alarming lack of rainfall.
🏫 To mitigate the impact, authorities have initiated an emergency purchase of 5,000 storage tanks. These tanks will be strategically distributed to protect early childhood centers, ensure agricultural production, and assist people with limited mobility.
🌍 The emergency in the Caribbean reflects the global impact warned of by the U.S. agency NOAA, which cautioned that the current thermal pattern in the Pacific could make this El Niño cycle one of the strongest on record.
