German startup SWARM Biotactics is building insect-scale surveillance tools by equipping real cockroaches with tiny backpacks packed with neural interfaces, sensors, and communication modules.

These insects can be guided by electrical signals or operate in semi-autonomous swarms, moving through environments where traditional robots fail, like rubble, tight spaces, or high-risk zones.
