Dogru is a journalist, a German citizen living in Berlin.

After reading his post, I sent him a private message offering to order groceries and have them sent to his home.

The reply shocked me even more. “Unfortunately, I’m not allowed to accept any financial or material support,” Dogru wrote.

Dogru is the first European Union citizen known to be living inside the EU to face extrajudicial sanctions imposed by Brussels – robbing him of fundamental civil and humanitarian rights.

He’s also the first person to be sanctioned specifically for his reporting related to Palestine.

“I’m not allowed to exist anymore, I’m not allowed to provide my children with the basic necessities,” he explained on The Electronic Intifada Podcast this week.

“I can’t pay my rent, I can’t pay my lawyers and yes – I’m not even allowed to accept any kind of food, water or medicine whatsoever from third parties.”

Technically, that even includes his own wife.

Dogru was born in Germany and raised there all his life. He was the founder of Red, an independent publication that extensively covered protests in Germany against Israel’s genocide in Gaza.

He is unlikely to be the last person to face this new form of excommunication – with the German government now openly threatening journalists that they could be next if they stray too far from the official line. https://electronicintifada.net/blogs/ali-abunimah/eu-sanctions-german-journalist-shocking-first-over-gaza-reporting

⚡️How Large Language Models Work

So let’s talk about how a transformer model works. In the webinar, I break down how these large language models essentially function like a super-charged autocomplete, using tokens and relationships between words to predict what comes next. It’s kind of like watching an AI piece together a phrase bit by bit.

If you want to dive deeper into how these models work and how to use AI in a way that keeps you in control, check out our Empowerment with Ethical, Local, and Private AI webinar.

⚡️Big Tech’s Power Grab: How Data Centers Are Taking Over the Energy Market

Google, Meta, and Microsoft are reshaping the energy landscape. With their promises of "net zero" (whatever that means in their terms), they’re locking in massive energy deals and taking over 25% of new energy investments. The catch? Data centers go up faster than the power grid can keep up, and "renewable" doesn't always mean what you think.

Have you noticed energy becoming more expensive or less reliable where you live?

🫆FREE On-Demand Webinar: Rise Above the Tracking Economy

You don’t have to accept surveillance as the price of living in the modern world.

In our Rise Above Masterclass, we show how everyday phones can arrive “pre-hacked” — designed for corporations to track, profile, and monetize your life, while leaving backdoors that others can exploit.

Then we share a better path forward. In our 2025 ecosystem showcase, you’ll see how real ownership looks: a device without ads, forced logins, or hidden trackers — and full control of the phone you purchased.

⚡️Local AI vs. Cloud AI: What’s the Difference?

With local AI, you download the model once, run it privately on your own device, and you’re not constantly feeding data centers or using up tons of resources. It’s more stable, more private, and definitely lighter on the environment compared to cloud AI, which constantly updates and monitors your usage. Have you ever used a local AI?

⚡️AI Output Mirrors Your Effort

In this clip from our recent webinar on ethical AI, I explain how the quality of your AI experience really depends on how you use it. If you just copy-paste answers without thinking, you’re not really getting much out of it. But if you put in thoughtful effort and use AI as a tool rather than a crutch, you can actually get much richer and more meaningful results.

🚨FREE GUIDE: Digital ID Is the New Gatekeeper

Digital ID is quickly becoming the gateway to everyday life — not just a “new convenience.” Those who object to the program must object to the many stages that get us there, namely electronic IDs and biometric collection.

If access to goods and services gets put behind a wall, opting out may come with real tradeoffs. That’s why this guide focuses on what’s coming and what you can do now.

We cover timelines, mechanisms of control, and how different regions are rolling this out.

⚡️Your Tech Choices Matter More Than You Think

In this clip from a recent webinar, I talk about how the devices and tools we choose every day genuinely make a difference. It's not just about privacy—it's also about the environmental impact. The more we rely on centralized, cloud-based AI embedded in our tech, the more we drive up resource usage. Many people don't even realize they have a choice, and that’s why it’s so important to spread the word.

💻 Why We Chose Arch Linux for Above OS

In my recent chat with Jerm Warfare, I got to share why we built Above OS on Arch Linux. What’s great about Arch is the Arch User Repository (AUR). It’s a community-driven hub where anyone can share software, so you can find and run almost anything you need. And because Arch is a rolling release, you’re always up to date with the latest improvements. It’s a bit different from other Linux distributions, but it means you have more control and flexibility.

💦Water Usage in AI Data Centers

Let’s talk about water usage in these massive AI data centers. In a recent webinar, I get into how these hyperscalers consume enormous amounts of water—not just for cooling the servers directly, but also through the power plants that keep them running. We’re talking billions of liters of potable water each year—enough to match places like Sydney Harbour—often in regions that are already water-stressed.

If you’re interested in how we can tackle AI’s impact more sustainably, definitely check out the "Empowerment with Ethical, Local, and Private AI" webinar.

⚡️Big Tech Acts in Lockstep

In this interview with Chris Martenson from Peak Prosperity, I shared my concerns about how closely big tech and government institutions are starting to move together. Whether it’s censorship, data sharing, or infrastructure, we’re seeing fewer independent actors and more alignment around the same goals.

When technology and power consolidate like this, it leaves very little room for individual choice or accountability. That’s something I think we need to be paying a lot more attention to.

🤔 Do you think this alignment is accidental—or intentional?

⚡️Hyperscalers in the U.S.

In this webinar, I walk through how these enormous data centers— run by big tech companies—are popping up across the country. These are frontier-scale facilities that could literally power entire towns with their projected capacities. With how quickly they’re being built, it can be overwhelming, especially since it doesn’t seem like they care about what the people in the area’s want.

If you want to see the full picture and understand what these hyperscalers mean for AI deployment, check out the "Empowerment with Ethical, Local, and Private AI" webinar.
