Tomorrow San Miguel del Monte and other towns very close to where we live in Michoacán, Mexico will vote on whether to reject the state government and become recognized as autonomous. This means they would be responsible for governing themselves.

We heard from some local friends that voters are being told that if they vote to become autonomous they will lose government services and roads may be blocked. The local indigenous leaders say this is disinformation to discourage people from voting yes on the measure.

This is one of the reasons I love Mexico. This wouldn't even be an option in most nations.

Freenet has been rebuilt as a decentralized network that could one day rival the web. It’s fast, scalable, and lets apps and data live entirely on the network without centralized infrastructure.

But its new reputation system is tied to “Ghost Keys” verified through Stripe payments. This means Stripe can link donations to users—undermining the privacy Freenet promises.

⚡️The Patriot Act for Crypto and CLARITY

Earlier this month I came across a piece by Lola Leetz warning that basic privacy practices on the blockchain could soon become crimes.

At a FinCEN hearing, Director Andrea Gacki confirmed they’re finalizing a mixer rule modeled after the Patriot Act. It doesn’t just target mixers—it targets any privacy tools: splitting transactions, using one-time wallets, even delaying transactions. In other words, the normal ways people protect themselves online.

Developers could face criminal liability, and everyday users may be treated as suspects simply for practicing privacy. Meanwhile, politicians pushing these laws take money from the same crypto scammers they claim to protect the public from.

Even with updates to the CLARITY Act that clarify what counts as “running” versus “writing” software, the message is clear: crypto privacy is being dragged under the same surveillance regime as traditional finance.

Buon giorno,

I'm here in Italy doing some final research for my upcoming Digital ID report. I'll be traveling around before the upcoming biometric travel requirements and asking people if they agree with the changes, and whether they're concerned about Digital ID.

Its my first time in this part of the world and I'm rejuvenated by the landscape and culture. Its a welcome change of pace from the hustle and bustle in the US.

You come to appreciate the little things; looking at the wineries, entering a castle, and enjoying a bite or two.

Digital ID, just like the medieval watchtower in this picture threatens to watch over all of life's pleasures, and over all of us.

These little pleasures are worth fighting for.

For that reason I feel this Digital ID report is one of my most important works and I can't wait to share it with you.
