“It’s harder with gloves”
Actually it’s easier… I can do it one handed with gloves using just my off hand assuming a loose belt is loaded and the end is dangling out of the gun, allowing me to do one handed speed reloads of a drum/box without taking my firing hand off the grip. Same way you would a rifle.
Repeatability in all situations and environments matters though so I don’t train this as a method I’d actually use. This is more of a party trick / “Look what I can do!”
I practice with these dummy rounds and really value them as a machine gunner’s training aid because the muscle memory and proficiency in handling belts from 100s of hours of fidgeting around with belts at home has really paid off. If you fumble around with belts and don’t have that mental mind-to-body phantom feel of how linked rounds behave in your hand especially in the dark at night, considered purchasing some dummy rounds.
You can no shit get better at handling machine guns on your couch watching the TV because belt handling is usually the weak point for people who only handle belts during live fire training. It’s a blind spot in how we train and it really takes you to the next level when you are used to playing around with dummy rounds and get to handle belts daily.

I mentioned speed-linking in my post earlier today and got a few DMs. Figured a demo was warranted. I’ve shown this dozens of times over the years but those posts that show it have since been buried by new posts.
Speed linking like this is only possible with disintegrating belts on push feed MGs. Since they are open at the bottom you can just snap belts together like this. Learn this skill and you won’t have to reload your beltfeds in the traditional sense ever again. Practice and your reload times will be way faster than anything you could do using traditional linking or reloading.
