🇺🇸🇯🇵⚡️ — U.S. forces in Okinawa, Japan, have been ordered to suspend operations for 48 hours and observe a 30-day nighttime curfew following the arrest of a Marine suspected of murdering and robbing a local woman, NHK reports.
Lance Cpl. Devin Jacob Ballard, 20, stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, is accused of strangling 39-year-old Anna Yagi at a hotel in Naha on Saturday and stealing her belongings. Ballard, who was arrested Sunday, has denied the allegations.
Lt. Gen. Benjamin Watson ordered all U.S. military personnel in Okinawa to halt unit operations for 48 hours beginning Wednesday, banning off-base recreational activities and alcohol consumption.
A midnight-to-5 a.m. curfew will take effect Friday for 30 days.
