🇩🇰⚡️ — Danish authorities say more than 14 million CPR-number (personal identification number) searches were attempted during the major breach of the country’s civil registration system, with approximately 8.8 million searches returning personal information.
The unauthorized access lasted for 10 days in September through a small Danish company with legitimate access to the CPR register.
The breach exposed names, addresses, and CPR numbers belonging to living residents, people who have moved abroad, and deceased individuals. Authorities discovered the activity after the company generated an unusually large bill for CPR lookups.
Denmark’s National Unit for Serious Crime is investigating and cooperating with foreign police, but no suspects have been identified or charged.
