🇷🇺⚡️ — A 28-year-old researcher has died following a suspected laboratory accident at Russia’s Anti-Plague Research Institute in Shelekhov, near Irkutsk, CNN reports, citing Russian authorities.

The woman was diagnosed with pneumonia of unknown origin, with officials investigating whether a dangerous infectious agent was released. Buryatia’s regional leader said she may have died from plague, although the exact infection has not been confirmed.

All identified close contacts are under medical observation and have so far tested negative.

Russian health authorities say the situation remains stable and there is currently no confirmed plague outbreak.
