🇮🇳⚡️ — India has invoked emergency measures to boost electricity generation as coal inventories at power plants fall to their lowest level in nearly three years amid weak hydropower production and severe nighttime power shortages.

The government has ordered companies operating captive coal plants larger than 50 MW to run them at maximum capacity and sell surplus electricity to the grid.

Coal stocks at grid-connected power stations have more than halved from a year ago as generators compensate for reduced hydropower and the loss of solar generation after sunset.
