🇺🇸🇬🇷🇪🇺⚡️ — U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle has pressured Bulgaria and other Balkan countries to purchase American LNG through Greek construction company Aktor, raising questions about her close relationship with one of the company’s paid lobbyists, according to WSJ.

Christos Marafatsos, who has received more than $440,000 in lobbying fees from Aktor, has accompanied Guilfoyle to numerous diplomatic meetings, including talks with Bulgaria’s president. Several officials mistook him for her chief of staff and said he had not disclosed his ties to Aktor.

Guilfoyle also helped Aktor secure a proposed $6 billion gas agreement with Albania. The company estimates that its signed LNG contracts could generate €1.8 billion in pretax profits over 20 years, although some agreements remain uncertain.

Competing energy companies have accused the ambassador of favoring Aktor.
