systemd 262

К нам приехал долгожданный релиз свободного (GPL) менеджера систем GNU/Linux. В этой версии:

поддержка LTO (Live-Update Orchestrator);
canary text для ИИ-агентов (для правильной атрибуции соответствующих изменений) в AGENTS.md;
поддержка политик FSCRYPTv2 в systemd-homed;
полный перевод udevadm на интерфейс varlink;
возможность сборки systemd в качестве статического бинарника (для использования в контейнерах);
множество других больших и малых изменений, неизменно приближающих доминирование GNU/Linux.

Поддержка LUO особенно интересна в контексте работ над Orphaned VM - виртуалках, способных переживать ребут хоста без остановки работы.

Выпуск системного менеджера systemd 262

После трёх месяцев разработки доступен релиз системного менеджера systemd 262. В новой версии реализовано встраивание в процесс минимального набора unit-файлов, обеспечена поддержка сборки со статическим связыванием, проведена интеграция c dm-clone для клонирования блочных устройств и добавлено ведение БД установленных файлов в systemd-sysupdate.

OpenShot video editor is now available as a snap

The OpenShot video editor is now available on the Canonical Snap Store. An official snap package of the Qt-based non-linear editing tool went live today, September 22. Users can install it from App Center, with the snap version being distinguished from the Deb build carried in the Ubuntu archives by virtue of being newer. UN panel says AI safeguards can’t wait after Hugging Face hack

A UN-backed scientific panel is urging governments to strengthen AI safeguards before researchers fully understand how advanced agents can escape control. Its first thematic assessment of the OpenAI-linked Hugging Face hack says the precautionary principle should apply because a rare failure could still cause catastrophic or irreversible harm.

User-initiated provisioning for Windows 365 Reserve

Microsoft announced the general availability of user-initiated provisioning for Windows 365 Reserve. Windows 365 Reserve is a business continuity service that gives employees short-term access to a Cloud PC, a virtualized Windows desktop hosted in Microsoft's cloud, when their primary work device is unavailable. With this feature, eligible users can start provisioning their own Reserve Cloud PC directly from the Windows App instead of waiting for IT. You control the capability through a Windows App setting in Microsoft Intune and scope it to Microsoft Entra ID user groups.

GPT-6 Sol and Luna cut API costs

OpenAI has launched GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna as cheaper, faster alternatives to its flagship GPT-6 Astra, with API prices reduced by about 50% from the previous generation. Microsoft 365 backup gaps make full tenant recovery difficult

Microsoft 365 has a resilience problem. If attackers compromise privileged accounts or applications, they may be able to delete data, identities, and configuration across the tenant. Restoring individual mailboxes or files is possible, but rebuilding a functional tenant with the correct identities, permissions, policies, and service connections remains difficult.

Опубликован релиз операционной системы NetBSD 10.2, который отнесён к категории корректирующих обновлений и включает в основном исправления проблем и уявзимостей, выявленных с момента публикации NetBSD 10.1 в декабре 2024 года. Ветка NetBSD 10 будет поддерживаться до релиза NetBSD 12.0. Для загрузки подготовлены установочные образы размером 639 МБ, доступные в сборках для 57 системных архитектур и 16 различных семейств CPU. Для новых установок рекомендуется использовать недавно опубликованный релиз NetBSD 11.0.

Выпуск медиаплеера VLC 3.0.24 с устранением 130 уязвимостей

Представлен выпуск мультимедийного проигрывателя VLC 3.0.24. Код написан на языке Си и распространяется под лицензией LGPLv2.1. В VLC и во встроенных библиотеках устранено более 130 проблем с безопасностью, вызванных переполнениями буфера, обращением к памяти после её освобождения, целочисленными переполнениями и двойным освобождением памяти (детали пока не раскрываются). Некоторые из уязвимостей могут эксплуатироваться при обработке специально оформленного контента.

Here's some very intriguing work taking place by a Google engineer... With the hyperscalers and other cloud providers pushing for zero-downtime, a set of experimental patches for "Orphaned VMs" allow for the virtual machines to continue to run while the host kernel is offline for security updates or rebooting with the Live Update Orchestrator.
