18 years ago, Bitcoin got its first home on the internet.

On August 18, 2008, the Bitcoin.org domain was registered by Satoshi Nakamoto and early Bitcoin developer Martti Malmi.

At the time, Bitcoin didn't even have a network yet.

The white paper would follow a few months later, on October 31, 2008, and the Bitcoin network launched on January 3, 2009.

In its early days, Bitcoin.org was a simple place to learn about the project and find the software needed to run Bitcoin. It was never an official Bitcoin website—Bitcoin has no central organization or official website.

Today, Bitcoin.org remains a community-driven project, while Bitcoin itself has grown from an idea on a website into the world's largest cryptocurrency.

18 years later, the story is still being written.
