U.S. mortgage rates climbed for a seventh consecutive week, reaching a new peak, Freddie Mac data showed on Thursday. The average rate for a 30-year fixed loan rose to 7.4%, the highest since November 2023, up from 7.28% the previous week and 6.3% a year ago. Bessent said the situation is expected to normalize soon.
