The United States completed its withdrawal of troops from Iraq by September 30, ending its military presence in the country. The move follows six months of conflict between Iran and the U.S., during which Iranian forces launched over 1,000 airstrikes against American positions in Iraq since March 2026. While the conflict was not cited as the reason for the U.S. troop withdrawal, Iran has portrayed the exit as evidence of diminishing American influence in the Middle East. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has repeatedly declared that the U.S. no longer has a future in the region.
