German Soldiers
Hans Eberhard Kinzel (18 October 1897 in Berlin-Friedenau; suicide 23 May 1945 in Idstedt near Flensburg) was a German officer in the German Army, the Freikorps, the Reichswehr and the Wehrmacht, ultimately a general in the infantry. From 10 May 1945, as chief of the liaison staff to the British 21st Army Group, he was part of the delegation under General Admiral von Friedeburg that signed the German surrender in northwest Germany, Holland and Denmark.
When he was informed of his impending captivity, the general and his partner Erika von Aschhoff decided to take their own lives in view of their impending separation and committed suicide on 25 June on the banks of the Langsee between Idstedt and Süderfahrenstedt.
