A total of 21,107,000 Men were drafted into the German Wehrmacht between 1939 and 1945.

Wehrmacht strength on key dates:
- September 1, 1939 - 3,214,000;
- 1940 - 3,250,000;
- June 22, 1941 - 7,234,000;
- Summer 1942 - 8,380,000;
- June 1, 1943 - 11,770,000 (peak of Wehrmacht strength);
- June 1, 1944 - 9,420,000;
- October 17, 1944 - 7,590,000 (the day Hitler issued a decree introducing conscription from age 16);
- April 16, 1945 – 3,500,000 (the day the Battle of Berlin began);
- May 2, 1945 – 3,190,000 (the day hostilities ended)
