1920 – How the Freikorps’ Ehrhardt Brigade Botched the Kapp Putsch
On March 12, 1920, at 10:30 p.m., the 6,000-strong Ehrhardt Brigade marched into Berlin via the Heerstraße, effectively seizing total control. Yet, their commander, Corvette Captain Hermann Ehrhardt, made a completely inexplicable decision: he had his brigade camp at the Brandenburg Gate until 7:00 a.m., thereby allowing the government to escape to Stuttgart. In doing so, the putsch failed before it had even truly begun. This video explains why that happened.
