Cossacks in the Fight Against Communist
October 17, 1941
"In the evening, Schenckendorff [commander of the rear army sector] visited; he welcomed the news, as combating the widespread and well-organized partisan movement is currently his main task. To this end, Cossack squadrons are to be formed on a trial basis from Russian prisoners of war."
March 5, 1942
"A local Cossack squadron distinguished itself in the fight against the partisans in the rear sector of the 2nd Army."
March 27, 1942
"The ferocity of the fighting against the irregular troops in the rear of the 2nd Army is illustrated by the following figures: Between February 25 and March 25, 1,936 partisans were shot dead, and two artillery pieces, four anti-tank guns, 15 machine guns, and extensive materiel were captured. Our own losses amounted to 95 killed and 143 wounded, including the losses of three Cossack squadrons, who had particularly distinguished themselves in these battles."
