The "TACO trade" has served up a fresh plate, and Bitcoin's price confirmed the strategy in action once again.

A few days ago, headlines screamed about new 10% tariffs on the EU and wild threats around acquiring Greenland. Capital fled to safe havens; gold sprinted to fresh highs around $4,800.

BTC, behaving like the macro asset it is, tanked to an intraday low near $87,300. Leverage got wrecked —$625M+ in positions liquidated.

Then, on cue at Davos, the flip. Trump walked it all back — no new tariffs, a "framework of a deal" on Greenland. The threat vanished as quickly as it appeared. Poof.

And just like that, global risk sentiment shifted. Bitcoin ripped right back toward $90K, dragging the total crypto market cap up. It moved in lockstep with bouncing equities in Asia and Europe. Algorithms and traders front-running the de-escalation they're trained to expect.

The relief rally felt more like a cautious sigh than a full-blown party. BTC faded back below $90K, underperforming stocks. Here are a few possible reasons.

• Retail PTSD. The trauma of the late-2025 flash crash is still fresh. Investors are largely sitting this one out, leaving the market without its usual hype-fuel.

• Treasury overhang. A gnawing new fear: could giants like Strategy become forced sellers if prices threaten their debt?

• Regulatory fog. The delay of the CLARITY Act keeps big money hesitant, waiting for clearer rules.

The TACO trade's script played out perfectly, but the market's foundation is weaker. Yes, the algorithms still buy the pivot. The human conviction to hold the gains is lacking.
