🔹 1. Research your country and its position
Understand what interests your country represents on the agenda topic:
what initiatives it supports, what solutions it promotes, and what “red lines” it won’t cross.
🔹 2. Prepare 2–3 operative clauses
These are your proposed solutions to the issue — the very points that may later become part of the final resolution.
💬 The chairs have already shared forms for collecting operative clauses in the committee chats.
Please submit yours as soon as possible, so we can start working on documents on November 28.
❗️ What is an operative clause?
A section of a resolution that outlines specific actions countries can take to solve the issue on the agenda.
❗️ How to write operative clauses correctly?
🟣 begin with third-person action verbs (Urges, Strongly recommends, Supports);
🟣 must be numbered (1, 2, 3);
🟣 sub-clauses are written with letters (a), b), c);
🟣 sub-sub-clauses use Roman numerals (i), ii), iii), iv);
🟣 opening verbs should not repeat.
📌 Example operative clauses:
🔹 Urges states to reduce CO₂ emissions and implement a pollution monitoring system;
🔹 Requests the organization of educational programs on the dangers of carbon emissions and on methods of reducing them.
🎯 More examples, templates, and useful tips are in the slides attached to this post.
Your operative clauses are your power moves on the debate floor — don’t delay, send them in and set the tone for your committee 🚀
