Online bets are off: At least 24 casinos halt digital gambling by deadline
Twenty-four of the Kingdom’s casinos have ceased online gambling activities following a September 30 deadline, according to the secretariat of the Commission for Combating Technology-enabled Scams (CCTC). The commission warned that legal action would be taken against operators who violate the ban.
Of the 24 casinos, 12 were in Preah Sihanouk province, seven in Banteay Meanchey and five in Svay Rieng.
The CCTC reported that the 24 sites had ended their online gambling operations and removed the equipment used to run them. It did not report how many of the Kingdom’s almost 200 licensed casinos offered online services or comment on an earlier 2019 ban on online gambling.
Officials from the commission worked with the Commercial Gambling Management Commission of Cambodia and provincial authorities, with procedural coordination from provincial courts, to confirm the suspension of online activities at the locations.
