پنج اشتباه در نگارش اعداد در مقالات علمی!

۱- در ابتدای جمله، اعداد باید با حروف نوشته شوند نه ارقام!

Incorrect: 14 locations were ...
Correct: Fourteen locations were ....

استثنای این قاعده وقتی است عدد بخشی از یک ماده شیمیایی باشد. در این صورت باید اولین بخش حاوی حروف با حرف بزرگ نوشته شود.
Incorrect: 2-methyl-1-propanol is ...
Correct: 2-Methyl-1-propanol is ...

۲- فاصله نگذاشتن بین عدد و واحد آن.

Incorrect: First, 10mL of the sample ...
Correct: First, 10 mL of the sample ..
در نظر داشته باشید که ٪، ° و ' شامل این قانون نیستند و %10 صحیح است.

۳- اشتباه در واحد به کار رفته.

Incorrect: The area of the sheet used was 9 × 6 mm^2.
Correct: The dimensions of the sheet used were 9 × 6 mm.

۴- نگارش کامل یک واحد اندازه گیری.

واحدهای اندازه گیری فقط وقتی باید کامل نوشته شوند که یا بدون عدد نوشته شوند یا در ابتدای جمله با عدد همراه باشند.
Incorrect: Nine N-m of torque was ....
Correct: Nine newton-meter of torque was ....

Incorrect: The velocity was measured in m/s.
Correct: The velocity was measured in meters per second.

۵- به کار بردن فعل جمع بعد از واحدها.

Incorrect: In this experiment, 2 mg of the extract were dissolved in ...
Correct: In this experiment, 2 mg of the extract was dissolved in ...
