Градации страха

Anxiety / тревога
not frightened yet, only uneasy; gaze slightly too alert, shoulders held higher than usual, breath shallow, fingers tense around a small object

Alert fear / настороженность
alert fear beginning to form: eyes focused too sharply, lips parted slightly, body still but ready to move

Startle / испуг
the first instant of fear: eyes widened but not exaggerated, breath caught, jaw slack for one second, shoulders lifting toward the ears

Panic / паника
panic beginning to break through: breath quick and uneven, eyes searching rapidly, hands tense and uncoordinated, body caught between fleeing and freezing

Silent frozen fear / замерший ужас
silent frozen fear: body completely still, breath held, lips parted without sound, eyes fixed on the threat, every movement stopped at once

Cold controlled fear / холодный страх
cold controlled fear: the face almost calm, but the eyes are too still, the lips pale and pressed together, breath shallow, posture rigid with contained alarm

Avoid:
Avoid screaming horror face, exaggerated wide eyes, cartoon fear, anime panic, open-mouthed melodrama, distorted mouth, horror movie poster expression, theatrical trembling, helpless victim pose, plastic skin, photorealism, camera lens look, movie still, cosplay photo, glossy beauty retouching, obvious franchise imagery.
