The telescope will travel to the second Sun-Earth Lagrange point, which is ~one million miles away and about four times farther from Earth than the Moon. At L2, the combined gravity of the Sun and Earth will give Roman a stable vantage point with a clear, unobstructed view to survey deep space and accomplish its mission

Falcon Heavy sent Psyche toward a metal-rich asteroid, Europa Clipper to Jupiter’s Moon, and GOES-U into transfer orbit to improve NOAA’s weather forecasting. Falcon 9 launched NASA’s PACE mission to study Earth’s ocean and atmosphere and SPHEREx to map the history of the universe. The Falcon family has enabled NASA to reach farther and explore more of the universe, and missions like Roman continue that work

🚀 Roman Launch: What you need to know
The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope will settle essential questions in the areas of dark energy, exoplanets, and astrophysics.

Named after NASA’s first chief astronomer, the ‘mother of the Hubble Space Telescope,’ the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope will have a field of view at least 100 times larger than Hubble's, potentially measuring light from a billion galaxies in its lifetime. This observatory will also be able to block starlight to directly see exoplanets and planet-forming disks, complete a statistical census of planetary systems in our galaxy, and settle essential questions in the areas of dark energy, exoplanets, and infrared astrophysics.
