🔥 Iran lays mines in the Strait of Hormuz targeting the Omani route — reports

Unconfirmed reports indicate at least some of the missiles fired into the Strait of Hormuz tonight carried naval mines — apparently dropped into the corridor through Omani waters that ships have been using to avoid Iranian clearance.

🔶 It is unclear how many mines were launched, or whether the deployment succeeded

🔶 The target appears to be the very route vessels have been using to evade the PGSA's transit requirements

🔶 Iran previously declared a restricted zone extending from the US Navy's blockade line through the strait and into the Persian Gulf

If confirmed, demining the Omani corridor would take time, ships, and sustained commitment from a US Navy that is already stretched to breaking. And every minesweeper sent into that corridor becomes a stationary target for Iranian forces.

Meanwhile, commercial vessels would have no choice but to obey the PGSA's designated safe route — because the alternative now has mines in it. That means Iranian clearance, Iranian paperwork, Iranian terms.
