Igor is charged with article 205 of the Criminal Code of Russian Federation — "terrorist act". Such, according to the investigation and the prosecutor's office, is the symbolic arson of the threshold of the FSB in Krasnodar. Paskar committed this to draw attention to the war unleashed by Putin with Ukraine and express support for Ukrainians. During the action, Igor applied blue and yellow paint on his cheek.
This action is very similar to the performance by the artist Pyotr Pavlensky in 2015. The actionist set fire to the door of the FSB building on Lubyanka. However, contrary to Pavlensky's demands, he was tried not as a terrorist, but under the article on damage to cultural heritage objects (Article 243 of the Criminal Code of Russian Federation), and was appointed punishment in the form of 500 thousand rubles fine.
The action (symbolic arson) and motive (expression of protest) are similar in both cases. And the consequences in the case of Igor Paskar are even more insignificant: the door was not damaged — only a rubber mat.
So why is Igor Paskar being tried as a terrorist? We have already written in detail why the arson of military registration and enlistment offices should not be qualified as terrorist acts. In the case of Igor Paskar, the situation is even more absurd and obvious. This is a politically motivated case. Accusing Pascar of terrorism is a kind of justification for the war in Ukraine that the Russian state is now waging.
We call on human rights activists, journalists, as well as all concerned people to pay attention to this case. Let the repressions not take place in silence, and the names of all those involved in them be known.
The next court, at which Igor Paskar and his defenders will speak, will be held on May 16 at the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don.
