He called this concept "NATO 3.0" - it involves a strategic realignment of the alliance, in which Europe should become more independent in security matters, while Washington can redirect some resources to other areas, including the Pacific Ocean. The parties discussed a review of the deployment of US forces and bases in Europe - it should bring the US military presence in line with a "future alliance, not a past one."
