US Secretary of State Rubio stated that control over Greenland is necessary for the US to defend against China.
He claimed the Arctic has become a zone of intense competition with non-Arctic states like China seeking to control vital maritime trade routes. Rubio also emphasized that Greenland is extremely important for establishing missile defense and space warfare capabilities to protect the United States.
