Lavrov warned the EU that a war with it would be short, and Germany and Japan that he would not allow them to join the UN Security Council.

He called on Trump's America to release Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.

He told Berlin and Tokyo: "We are particularly opposed to Germany and Japan joining the UN Security Council because these countries have embarked on a path of militarization and revanchism. Russia advocates for Brazil and India to be granted permanent seats on the UN Security Council, taking into account the interests of the African continent."

He revealed that Moscow and Washington have "regular dialogue in various formats" and added: "I have already said what happened in Anchorage. We believe that there was an agreement in Anchorage, and we remain ready to return to it."
