Journalist Tucker Carlson stated that he warned President Donald Trump in the Oval Office days before the conflict with Iran. Carlson argued that attacking Iran would expel the US from the Persian Gulf and destroy American imperial influence.

Carlson reported that Israel is pursuing three goals: regional dominance, weakening the Gulf Cooperation Council, and removing US bases from the Middle East. He told Trump: "Your political legacy will be destroyed."

According to Carlson, Trump replied: "Yes, you are right. But eventually we all die anyway, so it doesn't matter."
