Back in April, we kicked off our Google Trends series to track retail curiosity around tokens. But in May, we leveled up. Alongside search data, we’ve added internal analytics from SimpleSwap that reflect actual user actions – where liquidity is flowing, not just where attention is drifting.

It’s a deeper view into market sentiment – and this combo of interest and execution is what makes our analysis stand out.

Here’s what our latest May snapshot tells us:

🔶 Bitcoin (BTC) was the undisputed volume leader on SimpleSwap – but the flow was heavily weighted toward selling. With BTC hitting new all-time highs in May, many investors used the rally to lock in profits. Roughly 50% of BTC swap volume went into stablecoins like USDT and USDC, while the rest rotated into altcoins – mainly ETH and SOL. That’s classic capital rotation: after a BTC rally, investors seek higher-risk/higher-reward plays.

🪙💲 Stablecoins (USDT & USDC) saw steady inflows, becoming the main exit point during the month. But unlike April – when stablecoin demand reflected fear – May’s flows suggest profit-taking and capital preservation. Investors aren’t leaving the market, they’re reloading.

🔷 Ethereum (ETH) stayed hot. After a tough Q1, ETH bounced back with over +40% growth in May. Our April data showed early ETH accumulation – and that trend continued in May. While ‘buy Ethereum’ searches popped on Google, whales had already made their move. Classic ‘buy the dip’ behavior.

🪙 Solana (SOL) showed consistent net buying throughout May. While memecoin fever cooled, demand for the Solana ecosystem stayed strong, suggesting investor confidence beyond just speculative hype.
